Mill Creek Care Centre

Since its inception, it has always been the Vision of the Board and Members of Tollendale Village to include a Long Term Care facility (Nursing Home) on the site at 274 Hurst Drive. After several unsuccessful attempts to obtain a new Nursing Home license from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC), we were able to arrange the purchase of a license for 160 beds from an organization known as Barton Properties, who operate several Nursing Homes in the Toronto area. As they were redeveloping some of their homes, they ended up with a "surplus" of 160 beds which the MOHLTC directed them to move to the Barrie area. The purchase of these licenses was completed early in 2008. In late 2007, a contract was awarded to Melloul-Blamey Construction limited for the construction of the facility. Construction started in May of 2008 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2010. The total cost of the project, including all "soft" costs, is in the order of $24,000,000.00.

A separate sister corporation, Mill Creek Care Centre, has been established to own and operate the Nursing Home. An arrangement has been made between Mill Creek Care Centre and a Nursing Home Management firm, Responsive Health Management, who have many years experience in the running and managing of a Nursing Home, to manage the facility for us.

The facility consists of 160 beds of which 60% are private beds and all of the remaining are semi-private, clustered into 5 "Home Areas" of 32 beds each. The 3 storey building will be connected to the Village Square for easy access from the rest of the Village. As part of the construction, an additional 90 underground parking spaces will also be added.

Due to the high demand for Nursing Home beds in the Barrie area, it is anticipated that the facility will be fully reserved by the time the building is ready for occupancy.
